there's no business in show business...... unless I work at it!
So back when I was married and starting a family, I came up with a way to be paid to create, perform and produce shows. And all I had to do was talk one person into buying my idea and they would bring a big audience! To top it off, they would pay me a decent wage for my artistic and creative concepts and talents. Well, I liked the sound of that and so did my new husband and business partner, Jim Bina. And that was how and why Custom Comedy Capers, special event entertainment agency representing the best talent that Chicago has to offer was created.
The hospitality industry serves corporate and residential clients in a variety of ways from live sketches at trade shows to themed reception parties. It includes festivals, public and private parties, sporting events and tradeshows; country clubs and night clubs. It also includes all the big hotels in Chicago, the school system and libraries.
This burgeoning hospitality world was an industry in inception in the early 1990's with Chicago leading the way and our entertainment agency at the helm (with few others in competition). No degrees in schools for this industry, not yet. We were in the beginning of what is now a booming industry with university degrees, international conferences and TV shows dedicated to the fun of throwing parties. I was a part of the beginning of it all. Our company, Custom Comedy Capers. Timing is everything.
What a wonderful opportunity to create. Jim (now my ex) and I nurture our opportunities. We supply more than just ourselves. We are a full-fledged entertainment agency - incorporated, bonded, licensed and insured and with a great reputation, to boot!
So, I use these opportunities to hone my improv skills, my characters, my voices and, most importantly, for me anyway, it allows me the chance to entertain.
It's risky what we do in this arena... sort of like stand-up .... but different. There is tons of audience interaction and none of your material "has been tried." Risky, fun, exhilarating and intense. Not many actors can perform this style which I have discovered over the years of casting.
I say we started our business in 1990 but my partner, Jim Bina, says 1992, when we incorporated. Potato potato.
